Our Swahili and Intercultural immersions programme promote East Africa’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage, support cross-cultural exchange and connection, and foster intercultural skills and education.
Our Swahili language immersions are integrated into other cultural and immersion experience training activities that take place at GEH. This allows for broad and holistic learning, and networking experience for participants.
SWAHILI IMMERSIONS
- SWAHILI FOR BEGINNER
Master the basics of Swahili through immersive, interactive learning and cultural experiences.
This Programme will develop your ability to perform key basic and common communicative tasks and interaction in Swahili, with a focus on greetings, introductions, and simple descriptions of everyday experiences.
Through activities such as role-plays, scenarios and interactive language games, you will learn basic vocabulary related to everyday situations and scenarios and explore topics aimed at introducing you to Kenya and East Africa’s social and cultural norms.
Alongside classroom activities, you will participate in cultural excursions and immersion activities aimed at exposing you to authentic Swahili-speaking environments.

Refine your grammar and vocabulary to confidently communicate effectively in various social, cultural, and work-related settings.
This course will significantly expand your Swahili vocabulary base and introduce you to key grammatical concepts so that you can communicate effectively and with ease in everyday social and cultural situations. You will engage with a variety of authentic Swahili audio and written texts intended to expose you to different Swahili speaking styles and to increase your listening comprehension and ability to participate in conversations and discussions on a variety of topics. Alongside classroom activities, you will participate in a number of cultural excursions and immersion activities aimed at challenging and strengthening your speaking skills in unpredictable and unstructured Swahili language environments.

ADVANCED SWAHILI
Enhance your Swahili fluency by mastering complex grammar that will enable you to engage in conversations in various settings like a pro.
This course will advance your Swahili speaking capacity and continue to broaden your Swahili vocabulary and grammar knowledge. You will practice applying complex grammar in your daily conversations and incorporating common Swahili colloquial expressions and idioms in everyday speech. Throughout, you will engage with selected Swahili articles, newspapers, and online materials, listen to diverse national and global news and speeches, participate in class discussions and debates, and write essays, reports, and information summaries. This course will help you build upon and master Swahili grammar rules, phrases and vocabulary learned in previous Swahili classes or studies. Alongside classroom activities, you will participate in several cultural excursions and immersion activities aimed at engaging your speaking skills in unpredictable and unstructured Swahili language environments.
