Based at the Glocal Experience Hub in Nanyuki, this foundational phase equips you with the mindset, skills, and context needed to volunteer ethically and effectively.

You will explore:

  • Global citizenship & social justice
  • Power, privilege, and ethical volunteering
  • East African history, culture, and development realities
  • Community engagement & intercultural communication
  • Reflection, leadership, and personal purpose

Phase 2: Volunteer Placement – East Africa (8–12 Weeks)
You will be placed with trusted local organizations, schools, social enterprises, and community initiatives in: Programme Duration: 28-Day preparation course at Glocal Experience Hub in Kenya + 8-12 weeks volunteer work in the country of choice in East Africa: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, or Rwanda

Who Is This For?

  • Young people aged 18–25
  • Students or gap-year youth from the Global North
  • Those seeking meaningful international experience, not “voluntourism”
  • Future changemakers, educators, social workers, development practitioners, and global citizens

No prior experience required; just curiosity, openness, and commitment.

What do you want to work on?

There are many different projects you can be a part of as a volunteer in East Africa. Teach at a school, become an assistant coach at a football or help at permaculture center to harvest and make honey, organic juices and products.

No matter where you choose to travel as a volunteer, you will have a unique experience by getting close to the culture and meeting people who live a completely different life than the one you know. Every placement is locally driven, ethically designed, and focused on mutual learning.

How You’ll Live

  • Stay with a local host family
  • Become part of everyday community life
  • Build genuine relationships beyond surface-level interactions
  • Learn directly from people whose lived realities differ from your own

This is where learning becomes personal—and unforgettable.

What do you get out of volunteering with Glocal Experience Hub in East Africa?

By the end of the programme, you will:

  • Understand global issues from the ground up, not from textbooks
  • Develop cross-cultural competence, adaptability, and confidence
  • Gain practical experience relevant to your studies and career
  • Strengthen your CV with credible international exposure
  • Build lifelong friendships and global networks
  • Discover your own values, voice, and direction
  • Return home with clarity, purpose, and a global perspective

Most importantly, you won’t just have stories to tell; you’ll have changed how you see the world and your role in it. NOT YOUR AVERAGE VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE. With GEH, you don’t “help from above.” You learn with, live with, and grow with communities. You don’t leave unchanged. You leave more aware, more skilled, and more committed to social change.

Join a community of young people who believe that global experiences should be ethical, reflective, and transformative.
